According to The Daily Star, Liverpool are set to make a £12m move for former striker Peter Crouch.

Crouch, who is currently at Portsmouth, looked to be heading to either Tottenham or Fulham after he rejected a move to Sunderland.

However, Rafa Benitez is keen to bring him back to Anfield and is tracking the situation from Thailand.

Portsmouth boss Paul Hart said: “Peter’s a great lad, and it’s too matter of fact to just say he’s going. He’s a great lad and he was fantastic in those three months I was here as caretaker manager.

“We’ll be sorry to lose him if he does go. It’d be great to keep him. Everyone wants to keep their best players but we’ve got to be realistic.â€.

The England international spent three unhappy years at Liverpool before Benitez sold him to Portsmouth last year for £11m.

If anything playing for us will get him a WC place. Remember Heskey for years getting his place and as soon as he left he couldn get in. Its the big club syndrome, if he came back he would prob play more for us than he would for say spurs with Keane, Defoe, Bent and the russian (couldn spell his name).

But we still paid 17m for Johnson, just because they owed us money that doesnt matter, that money was budgeted for in our budget.

He would make the odd subsitute appearance for us and then if Nando was injured or if we had few games on the trot he would play one maybe. With Fulham he would play week in week out which would give him a chance against the likes of Rooney Defoe Walcott Heskey And now maybe Owen who will be playing week in week out

Would imagine we would just have to pay for Crouch seperate. They owed us money now they dont so were all square

Would ya not think he offers something more than Heskey and Owen. Rooney and Defoe would be definate places, with Walcott if injury free. Owen offers nothing more than the first two as his pace is now one and he will not play every game for them this season.

If Crouch did come back, it would be a three way between himself, Owen and Heskey for a spot and IMO he would score more and offer more than Heskey, even if he was a sub for us and with his height would have the advantage over the other runt.

Saying that I agree he'll more than likley go to Fulham

Think Capello has a likin for Heskey this will be a big season to decide who is going to go to SA and Crouchy wont want to spend the majority of that on the bench while Capello is getting to look at the other lads every week

He'd be a super option for us but I doubt it would happen I'm afraid. Can't wait for start og the season and almost the end of the transfer window more so!

I was always sorry we sold him, but i can't see him coming back.there'd be no chance of him making the England squad next year.

    Spot on!

He left because he couldn't be sure of starting enough games and was worried about his ingurland carrer....nothing has changed. In fact he needs to play even more regular now with the press calling for the midget traitor to be back in the England squad just because he signed for a top 4 club   :(

Cannot seen him rejoining, however if we had Crouchie last year when Torres was out, I really believe he could have been the difference.

At least he'll know from past experience what the situation will be should he rejoin the club. We do need another striker, we cannot rely solely on Nando to score or to stay injury free all season, or Stevie for that matter.

He would be a waste of money, far too expensive.
