Best movies I watched in 2017, in no particular order: Logan Blade Runner 2049 Dunkirk Wind River Don't Breathe (possibly from the previous year but I only saw it in '17) Struggling to think of anything else that I could recommend.
OK, so I went to see it over Christmas and I don't want to get into any spoilers but I'm a bit meh as to what the massive backlash is all about. Firstly visually it is absolutely stunning and definitely one for the big screen. There is a shot in space in the third act where everything goes quiet for a few seconds that is just one of the best few seconds of any star wars movie imo. Yes, one of the strands of the movie in the middle section is largely pointless and yes I can understand fanboys disappointment at how certain characters may not have lived up to what or where they expected them to be. There is a certain sadness about it (depressing maybe) but I think one of the major themes of the movie is about letting go of the past and believing in the future. And the battles and action are very impressive. And there is a bit more realism as to everyone having more shades of grey and not simply being black (bad) or white (good). Imperial guards were cool. Dogfights were cool, massive exploding space ships were cool. Some of it was childish and disneyfied but I give you exhibit A - ewoks. Maybe people are too invested in them from their own childhood. If you want a good bubblegum adventure and don't take it to heart I thought it was a good 2 1/2 hours cinema entertainment.
Got it for Xmas. Going to wait for the right time to watch. Possibly after walloping the Ev tomorrow night
Watched 3 billboards outside ebbing. Great acting from all involved but the lead Frances McDonald is superb in it. Sam Rockwell also fairly good in it 7/10 Also watched brawl in cell block 99 with Vince Vaughan and have to say I was very surprised really enjoyed it. Thought Vaughan played the part extremely well and some great fight scenes 8/10
Watched “Pirates of Somolia “ last night . Decent film and easy enough to watch. It’s about a Canadian wannabe journalist who goes to Somolia to find out more about their pirates.
Only got around to watching Blade Runner 2049 last night, thought it was excellent. Really glad they managed to not fcuk up the original. Visually stunning and good extension of the original story. Took it's time but didn't drag, atmosphere was really true to the original. Denis Villeneuve is consistently good for his movies.
