Just eat what you normally would next Saturday, eating foods you normally wouldn't or more food than you normally would is a bad idea I reckon.

Yeah i have porridge every morning in work around 8 am and before the longer runs i would have too. On Sunday ill probably have porridge and a bagel.

When are you going to start taking the gels? I got those energy bloks too + will bring 5/6 gels myself. During the half marathon i took the gels too quickly (but that was probably down to being wrecked before it started due to the organisation!!).

Sounds like your travelling to Dublin for the marathon?

Definitely do not eat anything out of the ordinary this week but in particular the day before and the day of the race. Make sure you do eat before hand, porridge is great if you are used to it, add some honey or fruit for some extra carbs. During the race I always recommend about 60g of carbs an hour, particularly after the first hour. Gels and chews are probably the easiest way to get this. Most gels have 20-30g of carbs. But again do not try something for the first time during the race.
Worked with a former student here who ran a marathon last week, 3.05 in his first marathon in terrible weather, but it took him weeks to get his in race feeding sorted.
Some other tried and tested nutrition aids are caffeine and beet juice but only try them if you have experimented with them in training.

Beetroot juice is really good but I find only for shorter/faster races like 5k/10k.

Like most supplements the results can be individual. In theory, beet juice can improve any event with a significant aerobic involvement. If you do plan on taking it remember that it takes about 2.5 hours for the nitrate levels to peak in the blood stream.

Unless it's on Sunday it's no good to me, Saturday mornings don't suit me.
Bit mad that there's not 1 Sunday parkrun.

Not sure about a park run but I'm lucky enough to be able to run around the airfield in work. It's an 8k run so 2 laps most day keeps me going

One of the lads in work is doing the Dublin Marathon tomorrow and New York next Sunday.

Would love to do it at some stage, could do 20k, however don’t think I could do around 40k mentally whatever about the legs. When I mean mentally I mean the prep needed to do it properly.

Best of luck tomorrow to everyone doing it. Hope the conditions are good.

Good luck to everyone on the marathon tomorrow, serious achievement just to complete it, my own body wouldn't ever be able for it so massive respect to everyone who gets through it.
