No one has a perfect record, when it comes to signings...They may have picked two gems, or two donkeys, we'll just have to wait and see. No one here actually has first hand experience, watching either player (except Terry, who doesn't seem very optimistic about Kabak). Given the money being spent today, it's clear that there wasn't much cash to work with, so at first glance, you'd have to say that while both deals look good financially, there must also be a fair degree of risk, in relation to both players - othewise you'd never get them on the terms that we're getting them on.
Had to laugh at Merson. Doesnt know the players, but they automatically arent good enough for Liverpool as they are coming from lesser clubs. Someone should tell Paul that ALL teams are lesser to Liverpool, therefore it is impossible to buy from a comparable level. Had a quick looksie to see how many goals Andy Robertson and VVD's defences conceded the season before they arrived with us. Hull conceded 80, Southampton 60
So in spite of all their successes over an extended period of time, you will never just trust them? I don't know if it's just me mate, but you always seem to have an extremely negative outlook on all things Liverpool, especially in relation to our transfers and how much we spend.
Two great and badly needed signings if they get over the line. Davies has played a huge amount of games in a very competitive league and a 20 year old playing in the Bundesliga must have something about him.
If you can't be a happy, optimistic Liverpool fan these days then I'd worry real happiness may elude you!
Seems both are pacey and are comfortable with ball at their feet. I am sure these lads have been on the radar for a while and it’s a case of gettin depth in there with little outlay. Wouldn’t be that concerned with Schalke being bottom of the league, listening to a few European pods recently and that are a basket case. This lad was rated 30m last summer it seems to get him in for a loan, if he is good, sign for 18 million. If he is dirt, give him back.
For the shits & giggles of a comparison, VVD at the same age as Kabak had less than 30 appearances for a mid-table Dutch team, whereas the new lad has 40 appearances in the Bundesliga. Edwards & the transfer team have built up more than enough credit over the last seasons for me to believe.
I would say with Mustafi going to Shalke being a part of the deal that we have been working on Kabak deal from the start of January, considering we were linked with Mustafi, we must have been helping out with organising that move to get the deal done and price down. Davies seems to have been the necessary stop gap that we put in place in case Kabak deal fell through but he may prove yet to be the better of the two. Can't see either of them starting straight away. Maybe one in for Brighton but would you risk it against Citeh. Most players coming to Liverpool need a good lot of time to adapt before they start.
Be very surprised to see anything other than Henderson Phillips Wednesday and Henderson Fabinho Sunday and then look to get the new players involved next week. Can't imagine either starting the next two games.
Surprised that we are signing CBs at this very late stage. Considering we have been without fit CBs for months now, I didn't expect to sign anyone at all when we hadn't done so before the weekend. Good to see Klopp has gotten his wish (after listening to him complaining about lack of money last week). Hadn't heard of either of Davies or Kabak before. But both have plenty appearances and experience based on their ages and transfer prices. Hopefully it's another piece of magic from Michael Edwards.
I think the lad coming from Germany will have to quarantine for 2 weeks before he even trains with us.I’ve no problem with Davis starting Wednesday. He’s the best available defender and the club. Plus we’re at home and will have most of the possession.
Not sure about quarantine as Tuchel was able to take over training upon arrival at Chelsea because of his elite athlete status (something like that)
I would have thought with being tested regularly and tested just before he travels, he wouldn't have to isolate for so long.
I’m not sure of the government rules over there. I’m only guessing.maybe if he has a negative test before he arrives he will be ok
Southampton are working on sensational 11th-hour deal to sign Takumi Minamino on loan from Liverpool. Advanced but not done. [@David_Ornstein - @TheAthleticUK]
Henderson is needed in midfield. Philips has done well at times but up to 2 weeks ago Rhys was ahead of him
