New prices in JDW are amazing, which I think may also have been why the VFI were whinging again yesterday. €2.50 for a pint of Beamish which most people can't tell from Guinness in a blind taste, is just a fantastic price. €2.95 for a pint of Vitamin H? Unheard of in this day and age. Same price for Staro €2.50 for cask ales - which for the very same drink can reach €6 or more in the craft pubs - is also excellent €3.95 for a G&T? Get to ****, normal pubs charge that for the mixer alone. €2.95 for bottles of Erdinger, Zywiec, Kopparberg, Baltika Lager and Efes is close to off licence prices (these aren't longnecks, they are 500ml bottles) It's a game changer.
Great news. Might venture to the one in Blackrock this Sunday. Only started drinking Guinness a few months ago & I'm a fully converted Guinness drinker now. Don't know how I drank lager for all them years. Looking forward to trying a few new stouts now.
I see one is opening in Dun Laoghaire soon as well. Wasn't aware of this. Will do well down there above the pavillion.
Be interesting to see if any other pubs follow them and get rid of Diagio brands Guinness is obviously a huge pull in many pubs (excuse the pun) but for these prices, people may soon not mind as much going for an alternative
Are these prices here to stay or are they a strategy to get rid of competition in the short to medium term?
I work in Blackrock and went for lunch in it the first week months ago. Place was a joke mixing up orders and 1 hour waits. Went back a few weeks ago and service was better but food in General is not great value compared to other places in the area. Would rarely go to the pub for pints unless it was to watch a match or something, did not see many TVs in it last time I was there. Not sure if they have same policy as UK on not showing matches

I heard there's 2 of them coming to Cork, eat in them many a time if your looking for ot cuisine your in the wrong place if your looking to fill a hole, they do that perfectly. Should provide good competition, which is badly needed.

Super stuff .... Can't wait until there are enough of them open to really put pressure on the rest of the pub trade (and by extension, the IVA & companies like Diagio) I was chatting with a lad I know in the UK about this one time before and he's in the industry. He told me that in the UK, they buy massive volumes of beer for example, which is near it's best before date and between the massive purchase & the fact that it's getting old means they pick it up cheap. Then it's their job to sell it pronto, before it goes off (I think it's the taste that might go, rather than it actually going off as such). Personally, I've no idea if beer can go off or not, I seriously don't think spirits can but beer maybe. Also, there's another consideration and that is with regards to the lesser known brands, which they probably can buy a lot cheaper from small independent brewers etc.
You might be waiting a while for spoons to have an affect on other pubs prices. Hasn't been the case in the north, nor in England as far as I'm aware. Then again the ones in the north don't show footie, racing, no live music either. So the other bars have that as a pull.
Pints in weatherspoons derry 2.20/40? Sum drinking 50 stg I mind them 1.80/90 time off my college 10 years ago.. Think this pretty good price compared to letterkenny 4.20-4.60, then dublin 5.60?
